Synopsis
Gena Park, an Asian American academic super-star, has discovered a novel gene which may be harnessed someday to prevent tumor formation in cancer patients. In the final throes of her doctoral program, she ambitiously schedules her defense in time to be eligible for a coveted research position, but hits a crisis of faith after troubling data emerges and her advisor demands she re-evaluate her methods. After becoming a Resident Advisor at an offbeat undergraduate dorm, Gena strikes up a friendship with Howard Hamid Mabrook, a deeply philosophical physics major, who helps her navigate the dorm’s counterculture ways. Gena embarks on a journey to help Howard with his struggle with depression and in the process rediscovers her joy for science.
