SIGN THE SHOW is the first documentary about accessibility to entertainment for the Deaf/hoh community. It immerses the audience in humorous, heartfelt, and insightful conversations about the need and value of providing accessibility in entertainment. Executive produced by Rapper/Artist/TV Star Waka Flocka Flame and Deaf Leader/Deaf Interpreter Matt Maxey, the film features superstar entertainers Kelly Clarkson, D.L. Hughley, André 3000, Camryn Manheim, Chance The Rapper, Nyle DiMarco, Andrew Santino, Pat Monahan, JB Smoove, Chuck D., and many others.
Bay Area native and self-taught multi-award-winning filmmaker Cat Brewer (Director & Producer, Sign the Show) has an extensive background and passion for communicating, educating, and advocating. Her career spans academia, business, and entertainment, including 21+ years of teaching as an associate professor of communication studies, serving 10 years as the Executive Director of Leadership Oakland for the Oakland Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, and a 10-year career as a PR & marketing manager for an award-winning SF Bay Area jazz musician.
After attending a concert with a sign language interpreter in 2014, Cat learned of the challenges Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals often face when trying to access live entertainment. She took up the camera and created Sign the Show, a documentary she hopes will create a cultural shift in the entertainment industry by making open access the norm for a more accessible and inclusive world.
