In post-industrial Hong Kong, the landfills are close to capacity, neighbouring mainland China has closed the door on importing recycling from other countries and consumer purchasing fervour shows no signs of slowing down in the region. REFASHIONED follows the stories of three entrepreneurial innovators taking steps to motivate the fashion industry to evolve in the face of such adversity.
Joanna Bowers is an award winning writer and director based in Hong Kong but originally from the UK via Los Angeles. She is focused on telling socially impactful, international stories from unique perspectives. Joanna’s feature documentary debut "The Helper" exploring the maternal sacrifices of migrant domestic workers had a sold out 3 month theatrical run in Hong Kong and was acquired for international distribution by Gravitas Ventures with releases on SVOD and streaming platforms including iTunes, AmazonPrime and and NatGeo. Her 2nd feature documentary “reFashioned” profiling three Hong Kong sustainable fashion disruptors screened at Doc DMZ and HIFF before theatrical releases in Hong Kong and Japan and an international acquisitions by Gravitas Ventures. Recent projects also include TV commercial campaigns for The Hong Kong Jockey Club, Cathay Pacific and HSBC.
