We shared a conversation about Film & Television Publicity with Erica Tucker (Ascend PR), Linda Brown (IndiePR), Ngoc Nguyen (Nguyen Strategies), and Sylvia Desrochers (MPRM Communications), facilitated by Film Fatales members Autumn McAlpin and Natasha Kermani. We then followed with a networking reception.

Erica Tucker is a powerhouse born in Raleigh, NC and made in Los Angeles. After graduating from the University of North Carolina Wilmington in 2010, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in entertainment and public relations. Learning the importance of story-telling and culture early in her career, Erica Tucker has spent the past 6 years doing just that. Erica is the owner and founder of Ascend Public Relations Group, an entertainment communications agency where she specializes in traditional and new media talent. Over the past three years, Erica has led publicity efforts for new television programs, philanthropy, and product launches for her own agency, Ascend Public Relations Group.

Linda Brown spent six years at the prestigious PMK / HBH Public Relations. From there, she initiated and developed the motion picture department at Bragman, Nyman, Cafarelli (BNC/HBH) and went on to serve as VP of Motion Pictures for the famed Rogers & Cowan. She now owns Indie PR with veteran publicist Jim Dobson, whom she’s worked with for over twenty years.

Ngoc Nguyen is a Strategist who uniquely merges expertise as a publicist and experience as an independent producer to impact culture through creative storytelling. Ngoc’s career began at film festivals in Austin, Texas, followed by over a decade in publicity at Miramax Films, Creative Artists Agency, and Paramount Pictures in Los Angeles while simultaneously serving as a PR and talent relations consultant for major tennis events in Australia and New York including five seasons at the U.S. Open Tennis Championships. As an independent filmmaker, Ngoc produces content that champions female-focused narratives, including the acclaimed documentary “A Brave Heart: The Lizzie Velasquez Story” and, most recently, Google’s “Power On” Film Series, an anthology focused on inspiring girls in STEAM fields.

Sylvia Desrochers has worked with lauded filmmakers such as Oscar winners John Ridley (Twelve Years a Slave, Let It Fall, ABC’s American Crime), Susanne Bier (In a Better World, The Night Manager), Freida Mock (Anita, Maya Lin: A Strong Clear Vision, G-Dog), and Shawn Christensen (Curfew, Before I Disappear); Golden Globe winners Scott Alexander & Larry Karaszewski (Big Eyes, The People vs. Larry Flynt); and BAFTA winner Jonny Campbell (The Casual Vacancy, In The Flesh); as well as Anna Deavere Smith (Notes From the Field), Mark Pellington (Nostalgia), Laura Gabbert (City of Gold), The Mundo Sisters (ESPN’s What Makes Us), Ross Katz (Taking Chance); Tiffany Shlain (Connected, AOL series The Future Starts Here); Sofia Coppola; Michel Gondry; Marc Forster; Mira Nair; Alfonso Cuaron; Curtis Hanson; Philip Kaufman; Tony Kaye; and Clive Barker.

Autumn McAlpin is a filmmaker and owner of Side Gig Productions. Her directorial debut, MISS ARIZONA, won the Audience Award for Best Feature at the Bentonville Film Fest 2018 and was awarded IMDB’s ReFrame stamp for gender-balanced films. She recently co-wrote and produced the feature film Waffle Street, starring James Lafferty and Danny Glover, which won several awards on the festival circuit and is now available worldwide on Netflix, DVD, and VOD. She has also directed two award-winning short films and PSA campaigns and recently directed her first feature film, which she wrote and produced.

Natasha Kermani is a writer and director currently based in LA. Natasha’s credits include the science-fiction feature film Imitation Girl, which Epic Pictures recently acquired as a part of their inaugural Dread Central Presents slate. Short form work includes Lewis Black’s web series The Mentors (for which she won Best Director at the NYC Web Fest), and commercial content for clients including Microsoft, Redken, Vision Research, Cole Haan, and Third Love. Kermani was also the director for The Wkshp (2013-2015), a non-profit workshop focused on scene work and rehearsal techniques for NYC-based actors, writers, and directors.
