Synopsis
James Rigby’s story continues in THE CORONER'S ASSISTANT: THE EDUCATION OF JAMES RIGBY, delving into the dark corners of academia, friendship, and identity.
Following a tumultuous few months in Oliver Cross’ world, James is eager to immerse himself in a new term at the Royal Academy of Medical Science. The
school is abuzz with a rumor: a student has gone missing under mysterious circumstances just days before the start of the term.
Grappling with guilt, doubting his intentions, and dependent on laudanum to numb his turmoil, James falls into a precarious friendship with a charismatic fellow medical student, Jim Morrison. When James is initiated into an illicit student group, The Brotherhood of the Seven Spirits, his unsettled virtues are further shaken.
Also vying for James’ attention is a revolving door of familiar faces and curious newcomers: Oliver, who becomes a teacher at the Academy, and who’s harboring hidden motives; Mary, who is anxious for James’ assistance in tracking down Thomas’ pursuer; Harriett, Jim’s ambitious sister with an unrelenting infatuation with James; Jai Taylor, a misfit peer; and the sharp and befuddling Lenore Hargrave, the Academy’s only female student.
