Synopsis
DIANE FROM KERNVILLE is a satirical look at wealth disparity and loneliness through the eyes of an elderly woman desperately grasping for visibility and purpose. Set in 2013, the manipulation of the internet and our festering political division was seemingly more innocent and hopeful. Diane finds solace in the anonymity of online life, supplementing with cigarettes, wine, and a recent bestseller centered on learning to love your “authentic self.” Diane’s coping mechanisms, while humorous at times, are a painful reminder of the lack of agency and access experienced by many in a large, yet invisible, socioeconomic status. But in Diane’s rural California—gorgeous landscapes juxtaposed by local desperation and ugly human behavior by tourists—she subverts expectations and honors the folklore of good old-fashioned American grit.
Bio
As a director, my first documentary feature, Our dad, Danielle, will be available worldwide on November 1st. I co-own a boutique production company & creative agency that develops narratives, docs, TV, branded, and music videos spotlighting my LGBTQ+ community, women & nonbinary, and other underrepresented voices.
As a writer, I gravitate towards satirical & dramedy narratives centering on marginalized protagonists to examine observational truths and subvert expectations. I'm fascinated by assumptions and stereotypes surrounding underrepresented groups throughout history so I enjoy exploring our complexities to humanize our shared experiences.
