Synopsis

What does it take to fight for democracy now? BETWEEN THE SUN AND THE SIDEWALK is my new documentary that follows Christian Garcia, a fiercely dedicated Latino political organizer who leads a team of young people mobilizing their community for a soda tax. Bio

I am a Bay Area-based director, writer and producer whose media making work moves across independent film and television to media installation and transmedia projects. I produced The Independents and Alive TV for pubic television, have created several innovative community media projects with youth, and write regularly about issues in the public media and arts field. My films are included in museum collections across the country. I’m working on a new book project now with my co-author, Patricia Zimmermann, and developing a new film essay on how the objects that people collect or cast off open up the shifting mysteries of history, memory and identity. I offer consulting and coaching for filmmakers on their creative process and distribution goals. My work as an artist, advocate, and educator focuses on bringing together groups and individuals to spark dialogue and create impact across media and communities.
