Synopsis
Emily, a Texas college student who is usually driven but is now listless from the heartbreaking death of her mother, discovers her best friend Mia’s miscarriage on campus, which they worry will be investigated as an abortion. Joined by Mia’s roommate, fame-hungry tennis star Jess, they have 24 hours to take Mia across state lines to a clinic in New Mexico to save her life.
On the way, the secrets of Mia’s miscarriage reveal themselves as Kane, an overzealous police officer, begins chasing them, determined to get his son off the hook for attempting to aid Mia in aborting their pregnancy. Along the way, they call on Emily’s disapproving young Mormon Aunt for help, who joins the journey and, like them, is also hiding something. Emily must now lead the way, urgently trying to save her friend and fill the gaping hole left by the passing of her mother all while outmaneuvering the soul-crushing realities of Texas’s anti-abortion laws.

Sassy and HOW TO HACK BIRTH CONTROL (2022) have smashed the festival circuit with official selections at over 60 festivals, including the upcoming Nashville Film Festival, and prestigious festivals such as Geena Davis' Bentonville Film Festival, NewFilmmakers LA, and Harlem Int. Film Festival. It has won 21 awards and nine nominations and counting, including BEST PICTURE; BEST DIRECTOR; BEST SERIES; SPECIAL JURY AWARD, BEST SERIES PILOT, AUDIENCE AWARDS, a FEMALE PERSPECTIVE AWARD and BEST EDITING awards. In 2023 the City of West Hollywood and its Women’s Advisory Board voted unanimously to endorse the project and has set up special screening events for its members and the community. The project has also picked up endorsements from NARAL - Pro-choice America, SheNYC Arts & Truth be Told.
Her previous short film FEAR ACTUALLY (2020) was released to rave reviews and won 3 BEST FEMALE DIRECTOR AWARDS. FX Network tapped her to direct, write and produce for their online web channel, THIS IS AOK.
Sassy recently shot several promotions for new Disney Studio film DISENCHANTED.
