Synopsis
When Rosa Choc, a Maya land defender, travels from Guatemala to New York city to sue a U.S. mining company for rape and murder, her case captures the attention of an American biologist. Lorena Hernandez is engineering a plant to absorb nickel from the earth – a breakthrough that could revolutionize the global mining. But Rosa’s shocking allegations force her to question her business partner/lover’s past in the mining industry. Dan’s former boss is CEO of the company accused by Rosa. Lorena’s political awakening about just how dirty the mining business can be, leads to an unlikely alliance between two women in the fight for human rights and eco-justice. Inspired by true events, RARE EARTH is headed by an ensemble cast set in the corrupt world of international mining as seen through the interrelated stories of a Maya land defender, an American bioengineer and a global mining executive.
