Synopsis

Dr. Betty and Gerard Aubuchon and their two children have recently moved south to the city of New Orleans to start their new life. Dr. Aubuchon has opened her new practice while Gerard, originally from the area, has just been elected district attorney. They are welcome to the city with a very elaborate Mardi Gras party at Mayor Harrison Buford’s home. Everyone who’s everyone is there, dressed to the nines and dancing the foxtrot to a live New Orleans styled band. Betty learns who’s who, befriends Alli May Buford, the Mayor’s wife, and accidentally witnesses something much bigger of a situation than she realizes… Betty and Gerard are trying to make a positive imprint on their new home town. Starting with Gerard’s ambitions and motivations, which do not fall in line with what his new colleagues. He’s trying to win his first murder case, however the service man who he represent got caught up in the love wrong red light district love triangle. While his agenda shifts to trying to make the city safe by shutting down this part of town, he runs into a few dead ends not realizing his friends, the local politicians, are the ones who oversee and control all of the city, including the brothels. Corruption runs very deep and they only way to try to control Gerard is for Mayor Buford is to proposition his wife, Dr. Aubuchon. The Mayor needs a doctor to get him out of a little situation that he has with Loretta Roy, his secretary and mistress. What better doctor to force into performing an illegal procedure than Dr. Aubuchon? She of course, doesn’t want to get involved or go against her beliefs, however, she doesn’t really have a choice after he threatens not only her license and practice but also her husband career. Dr. Aubuchon does what she needs to survive this situation, not realizing this type of greed is bottomless. It’s not so difficult to hide her solution to the one illegitimate pregnancy, but when pregnant mistresses start lining up outside of her new under ground abortion clinic that Mayor Buford has built for her, will she give in on the local corruption or let them ruin her entire life? Does she even have a choice?

Bio

Shanra J. Kehl is an award winning writer and director. After studying film and photography while downhill ski racing for Montana State University, Shanra graduated from Columbia College Chicago with a B.A. in Cinematography. She then moved to Los Angeles to intern under Phedon Papamichael and began a career shooting independent films, TV shows and documentaries. However, she soon realized she wanted to develop stories just as much as she wanted to shoot them. She began writing, and directed her first short film, MANSCAPING, a mockumentary that was picked up for distribution by Shorts International and caught the attention of Gillette Japan. Where she helped create an ad campaign in 2010. Recently, she made her feature directorial debut with THE MORNING AFTER, which has won over a dozen film festivals and was distributed by HBO East, and available on many platforms.
