Synopsis
ATTENTION MOVE: THIS IS AMERICA plunges participants into the heart of 1985 Philadelphia using virtual reality. Experience the tension-filled Mother's Day that changed history and the city forever.
In virtual reality (VR), step into West Philadelphia 1985 where you can move between the street, Osage Avenue, and inside two neighboring row houses; one housing the MOVE Revolutionary group, the other a working-class Black family. Feel the mounting pressure on the street as 500 police officers, including SWAT teams and snipers converge, transforming the block into a war zone.
Inside the row houses witness chaos and courage as both families face an impossible choice: stand their ground for freedom and defend their beliefs at the cost of jail or worse, or surrender to "The System." The air crackles with tension then the unthinkable happens - law enforcement deploys a bomb onto the MOVE home and you are plunged into darkness.
Now you find yourself in the aftermath of Osage Avenue, a street decimated by fire from the bomb. As you traverse down the street you can hear the audio of distressed and shocked neighbors and see flashes of the peaceful neighborhood before the destruction.
The experience evolves into a physicalized Gallery unveiling layers of history through vivid documents, footage, and firsthand accounts. The journey concludes with a powerful communal quiet time of collective reflection and healing.
ATTENTION MOVE: THIS IS AMERICA offers more than just a window into history - it provides a transformative platform to experience the human stories behind the headlines and humanity behind the history, blending storytelling with historical truth to create an unforgettable journey of empathy and understanding.
