Synopsis
ALWAYS HERE focuses on the destruction of Indigenous cultural sites. Native Americans have lived here for thousands of years prior to European contact, yet they struggle to reclaim their historical artifacts. Why are the ancient sites of Native Americans less valued than those of Colonial America? Is the root cause of this cultural genocide, a 1493 Papal Bull issued by Pope Alexander VI? How do laws like NAGPRA and Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act fall short? What can be done in the archeological, political, industrial and private sectors to recognize and promote the preservation of these legacies? We are involved with tribal leaders, tribal historical preservation officers, researchers, anthropologists, archeologists, lawyers, activists and educators as we traverse this multi-layered landscape. Much of our work is investigative, requiring the documenting and filming of the inner workings of desecrations and destruction that continues under the veil of science, private property or unbridled corporate influences.
